Frequently Asked Questions

What is Isolaz Acne Therapy?

Isolaz is a non-invasive acne treatment that combines vacuum (suction) pore cleansing with a broadband light source to remove debris and oil from pores and reduce acne-causing bacteria. The combined approach aims to cleanse pores and treat both inflammatory and comedonal acne.

How does Isolaz work?

During treatment, the handheld device gently suctions the skin to lift and loosen trapped debris, blackheads and sebum from pores. Immediately after or during suction, a broadband light (visible to near-infrared spectrum) is applied, which helps destroy Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) bacteria and reduces inflammation. The dual action — mechanical extraction + light — helps to reduce current lesions and lower the chance of new breakouts.

What types of acne can Isolaz treat?

Isolaz is commonly used for:

  • Inflammatory acne (papules, pustules)
  • Blackheads and whiteheads
  • Mild to moderate acne and some forms of more persistent acne when used as part of a treatment plan

Individual suitability should be determined at the consultation.

How long does each treatment take?

Treatments are relatively quick — typically 15–30 minutes for a full face session. So many patients schedule them during a lunch break.

How many sessions are required and how often?

Most clinics recommend a series of sessions, commonly 3–6 treatments spaced roughly 1–4 weeks apart, depending on acne severity and skin response. Clinical reports and provider guidance typically describe incremental improvement over several sessions with continued improvement in the weeks after the final treatment.

Does Isolaz hurt?

Most people describe Isolaz as mildly uncomfortable or painless. The suction can cause a pulling sensation, and the light may feel warm, but many clinics report high tolerability. Some patients experience brief stinging on active lesions.

What side effects or risks should I be aware of?

  • Common, short-lived effects: transient redness, slight swelling, or mild tenderness. These go away within a few days.
  • People with darker or recently tanned skin may require more cautious settings to reduce pigment risk.

Who should not have Isolaz?

People with the following conditions should avoid treatment:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Active skin infection in the treatment area (other than acne lesions)
  • Recent use of photosensitising medications (e.g., some antibiotics, isotretinoin — wait period required)
  • Recent sunburn or recent intense tanning
  • Patients with certain implants or a history of keloid scarring — discuss individually

Your provider should review your medical history and medications before treatment. Discuss your concerns with your provider before treatment.

Can Isolaz be combined with other acne treatments?

Yes. Isolaz is often integrated into other clinically approved acne treatments to achive improved skin rejuvenation outcomes. Providers frequently combine in-office procedures with a home care regimen for the best outcomes. Always coordinate timing and medications with your treating practitioner.

How soon will I see results?

Improvement may be visible after a single session. But a more meaningful and sustained reduction in lesions typically appears after multiple treatments and can continue to improve for weeks to months following the final session. Clinical reports describe continued improvement up to several months post-treatment.

How long do results last?

Duration varies by individual and underlying acne drivers, such as hormonal, genetic, skincare. Many patients report several months of clearer skin after a full series. Maintenance sessions or complementary medical therapies can extend benefits. Some clinics report benefits lasting up to a year in selected patients when combined with ongoing skin care.

Is Isolaz safe for darker skin tones?

Isolaz is used on many skin types, but darker or recently tanned skin requires experienced providers and careful settings because light-based treatments carry a slightly higher pigment-change risk. A patch test and conservative parameters are recommended.

Can teenagers have Isolaz?

Yes. Isolaz is commonly used in adolescents with bothersome acne. Parental consent and an assessment of acne severity, medications and skin health should occur before treatment.

How do I know if Isolaz is right for me?

Book a consultation at Nitai: an experienced physician will assess your acne type, skin tone, medical history and goals. Next, they may recommend Isolaz alone or in combination with medical therapy or alternative procedures. This ensures a safe, personalized plan.

What questions should I ask at my consultation?

Helpful questions:

  • Am I a suitable candidate for Isolaz?
  • How many treatments do you recommend for my acne?
  • What results can I realistically expect and in what timeframe?
  • What are the risks for someone with my skin tone and history?
  • Will Isolaz be combined with topical or oral medications?
  • Do you have before/after photos of patients with my skin type?

Do I need a patch test?

A patch test may be offered for patients with darker skin or those concerned about pigment changes or sensitivity. Your practitioner will decide based on your skin history and risk factors.
