HIFU works by focusing the ultrasound energy on the tissues in a targeted area just below the skin surface. The energy emitted from the ultrasound causes the tissues to heat rapidly. When the skin cells in the targeted area achieve a particular temperature, they get damaged. This damage stimulates the skin cells to produce more collagen – an essential protein that gives structure to the skin.
This increase in the production of collagen makes the skin tighter and firmer with very few wrinkles. Since all of the energy from the ultrasound is focused on specific tissue below the surface of the skin, there is no damage to adjacent tissue or the upper skin layer.
