PDO Thread Lift

PDO or Polydioxanone Threads are special medical-grade threads that are thinner than strands of hair. These threads are made of protein and are extensively used in the thread lift procedure to rejuvenate the skin and improve its laxity.

The procedure involves using dissolvable sutures that help to tighten and lift the skin. PDO thread lift is a swift 45-minute procedure that provides improved skin results without needing to do any kind of special surgery.

PDO threads work by relaxing the muscles and the tendons, whereas the skin reacts to the intrusion of a foreign body. This reaction enhances the blood flow in the area, thus stimulating neo-collagenases. This leads to the formation of new collagen in the area, which makes the skin look tight and fresh. The PDO Threads also help stimulate hyaluronic acid and elastin, both crucial to maintaining youthful and firm skin.

Foxy Eyes

‘Fox eye’ or ‘Cat eye’ or ‘Designer eye’ is the latest trend in the world of aesthetics, which could be easily achieved with PDO Thread lift treatment. This includes elongating and lifting the upper eyelids to pull the eyes to form an almond shape. This way you could add more emphasis to the eyes and make them look sensual and attractive.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Matrix Mono threads?

Matrix Mono Threads are single PDO filaments that are smooth and don’t contain barbs. These smooth sutures are added to the skin in a mesh-like pattern to produce the tightening effect. The smooth matrix mono threads tighten the skin and improve the production of collagen. These wonderful mono threads help to rejuvenate the skin by stimulating the production of collagen.

Mono threads treatment provides a new and unique way to improve the skin texture by tightening and thickening the sagging skin.

The smooth threads work wonderfully well to create new collagen that supports your face and creates a good tightening effect that lasts for up to 6 to 12 months. To get consistent results it is recommended to do the thread treatment after 6 months to maintain the tightening effect.

The matrix mono thread treatment is a swift procedure and mainly depends on the size of the area that needs to be covered. On average it would only take between 30 to 60 minutes to get the procedure done, so you don’t need to disrupt your plans for the day to get the treatment done. It would simply seem more like a one-hour visit to the specialist.

The patient will experience minimal discomfort during the treatment, and you will be able to experience the positive results of the matrix mono thread treatment within a few days post the procedure.

Issues addressed by Matrix Mono Threads

– Skin lifting & tightening
– Collagen stimulation that results in skin rejuvenation
– Revolumization of the loss in facial volume due to ageing

Matrix Mono Threads are a new and advanced method of tightening and thickening the skin. Unlike other PDO threads that contain barbs, the mono threads are smooth and provide top quality skin results post-treatment.

What are PDO threads?

PDO (polydioxanone) threads are absorbable medical sutures that are inserted just under the skin to lift and reposition sagging tissue and stimulate collagen production, producing an immediate lifting effect and longer-term skin rejuvenation.

How does the procedure work?

A clinician uses fine needles or cannulas to insert PDO threads into the subcutaneous layer. The thread’s physical structure (barbs/cones or smooth threads) lifts and repositions tissue. The presence of the thread also triggers a collagen-stimulating wound-healing response so skin quality improves over the following months.

Which areas can be treated with PDO threads?

Common areas: lower face and jawline (jowls), cheeks, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, neck, brows, and sometimes mid-face and lower eyelid area. PDO threads are also used off-label for some body areas by experienced practitioners.

Am I a good candidate?

Good candidates are people with mild-to-moderate skin laxity who want a less invasive lift than surgery. Those with severe skin sagging or heavy tissue laxity are often better served by a surgical facelift. Contraindications commonly include active skin infection, bleeding disorders, uncontrolled systemic disease, or certain autoimmune conditions — your clinician will screen you at consultation.

How long does the procedure take, and is anaesthesia required?

Treatment time is typically short — often 30–60 minutes, depending on the number of threads and areas treated. Local anaesthesia and/or a numbing agent are commonly used; general anaesthesia is not required. Nitai’s thread treatments are described as quick, minimally invasive procedures.

How quickly will I see results, and how long do they last?

You’ll usually see immediate lifting because the thread repositions tissue. Over the next 3–6 months, collagen production improves skin texture and firmness. Results vary by patient, thread type and technique; typical clinical durability ranges from about 9–18 months, and in some cases longer when combined with other treatments. PDO material itself is absorbed over months, but collagen effects can persist after the threads dissolve.

What are the risks and side effects?

Common short-term effects: swelling, bruising, mild pain/tenderness, tight sensation, and temporary dimpling.

Less common but reported complications include thread exposure/migration, infection, asymmetry, under-correction, scarring or injury to deeper structures (rare).

Most complications are manageable when treated early by an experienced clinician. Nitai emphasises safety and experienced practitioners.

Is the procedure painful?

Discomfort is usually minimal because local anaesthesia or topical numbing is used. Some patients feel pressure or pulling during and after the procedure; soreness typically settles over a few days.

What is the recovery / downtime?

Downtime is limited versus a surgical facelift. Many patients return to work within 1–3 days, though noticeable swelling or bruising may persist longer. You’ll be given aftercare advice such as sleeping elevated, avoiding strenuous exercise and facial massages for several days.

How should I care for my skin after threads?

Typical aftercare recommendations:

  • Keep your head elevated while sleeping for 48–72 hours.
  • Avoid heavy exercise for 48–72 hours.
  • Avoid facial massage, dental procedures, or anything that might tug the treated area for about 2 weeks.
  • Follow clinic-specific wound-care and hygiene instructions to reduce infection risk. Nitai staff will provide a tailored aftercare plan at your appointment.

Can PDO threads be combined with other treatments?

Yes. Many practitioners combine PDO threads with dermal treatments, anti wrinkle treatments, lasers or radiofrequency procedures to achieve volume, lift and skin quality improvements. Combination treatments are often staged for best outcomes; a consultation at Nitai will determine the right plan.

How long until threads dissolve?

PDO threads are absorbable. They typically degrade over several months (commonly cited as about 6–8 months) but the collagen scaffold they stimulate can last longer. Other thread materials (PLLA, PCL) have different absorption profiles and longevity.

Will there be visible scars or marks?

Thread entry points are very small (needle punctures) and usually heal with minimal scarring. Temporary skin irregularities (dimpling/puckering) can occur but frequently resolve as swelling decreases and collagen forms.

What should I tell my clinician at the consultation?

Bring your medical history, current medications (especially anticoagulants), prior facial procedures, allergies and realistic expectations. Mention any autoimmune disease, active skin infections, or recent dental/facial surgeries. A good consultation at Nitai will include examination, discussion of goals and a treatment plan.

What happens during a follow-up?

A follow-up visit (usually within 1–2 weeks) checks healing, addresses any bruising or discomfort and confirms results. Further follow-ups may be scheduled to monitor outcomes and plan maintenance treatments.

Is there an age limit?

There’s no strict “age limit.” Ideal patients are typically middle-aged adults with early-to-moderate laxity; younger patients sometimes use threads for subtle contouring. Individual assessment is key.

If I don’t like the result, can threads be removed?

Yes. Threads are foreign bodies, they can be located and removed if necessary. Early contact with your treating clinician is important if you experience issues or are unhappy with the outcome.
