Varicose veins, minor surface veins and spider veins (also commonly known as thread veins) on the legs are a common occurrence with age. Sclerotherapy is used to remove these unslightly blood vessels.

In Sclerotherapy, a chemical is injected into the visible vein. The chemical causes the visible veins to collapse, empty out and eventually disappear.

Multiple injections are generally made with a fine needle. An ultrasound machine with a probe designed for veins is used to locate the visible vein accurately during the procedure. This allows entry of the needle into the vein to be accurately controlled, reducing complications or side effects.

Special stockings are used as pressure dressings as part of the aftercare. It typically takes 20-60 minutes for the treatment. Downtime is about a day, with full recovery taking several weeks with moderate exercise.

Spider veins visible around the eyes and nose as well as the cheeks, chin and upper body can be treated with a medical grade laser. At Nitai Medical & Cosmetic Centre, we offer this service.
