Our Doctor at Nitai Medical & Cosmetic Centre in Melbourne specialises in the treatment of Acne Scars. There are varying degrees of acne scarring depending on the severity of the acne. Acne scarring can be associated with pigmentation. We offer many options for treatment of acne scars depending on the severity, and one’s budget.
Our doctor will need to assess the pimple scars through a consultation where she would assess the skin type involved, severity of scarring including depth and whether you are still experiencing an acne issue. Based on her assessment, she would recommend a acne treatment regime with associated costs to resolve the problem.
What treatment modalities are available?
Fraxel Laser treats acne scars very effectively. Fraxel delivers microscopic columns of light deep into the dermis to create tiny wounds. This triggers the body’s natural healing process. The Fraxel laser only targets a fraction of the skin at a time allowing your body to heal the skin much faster.
Generally, we will perform 3-5 treatments to achieve optimal results. After each treatment, you can expect 2-3 days of social downtime. You won’t have any special wound care, but you will have some redness and swelling.
Revlite – Q-Switched Laser
The Revlite Q-Switched laser also can be used to stimulate production of the main structural proteins of the various connective tissues to improve acne scarring. It also will help with reduction of pore size, skin tightening, reduced abnormal pigmentation and reduced blackheads.
- Very effective for more severe scarring by stimulating formation of new main structural proteins of the various connective tissues.
Microdermabrasion is useful for mild scarring. By stimulating production of the main structural proteins of the various connective tissues, it will help with healing of the scars.
- Generally, Skin peels are effective for superficial acne scarring
- Effective in treating superficial acne scars by puncturing the skin with fine needles attached to a rolling pin. This stimulates production of the main structural proteins of the various connective tissues and gradually heals the scar. It can be used in all skin types including darker skin types without the risk of scarring.
